Opera-fragment performed in Russian. / Opera in one act performed in Russian.
Both extravagant works by Dmitri Shostakovich offer one possible answer to the question as to where opera as a musical-dramatic kind can move after the epoch of Romanticism has finally ended. From the ambitious avant-garde Orango about humanised apes only an interesting fragment remains that we are pleased to offer audiences. Their interest will certainly be captivated by the chamber opera The Anti-formalist Rayok: Shostakovich's bitterly grotesque protest against the government of fools in Soviet culture - and everywhere else.
The opera is staged in Russian with Czech and English subtitles.
